Hello everybody, Here are reviews of some new CDs i recently bought. The first ones are 2 new Warp releases and the recycled Plastikman CD. WAP 44CD - Autechre - Basscad,EP (Basscadetmxs) - Warp records CD single tracks: 0,01 Bcdtmx 410 secs 0,02 Beaumonthannanttwomx 493 secs 0,03 Seefeelmx 410 secs 0,04 Tazmx 416 secs 0,05 Basscadubmx 584 secs This is the CD version of a 3x10" boxed singleset. Missing on this CD are: Basscadoublemx & Beaumont Hannant's 12/4cadetmx. This is a collection of some remixes of Basscadet (as you might have guessed already), a track off 'Incunabula'. The first thing i thought when i saw this record was: why didn't they release some new tracks instead of recycling ;-) this track again. The original was already on 'Artificial Intelligence I' almost one and a half year ago! Well, the first remix is a bit boring really so we skip to the second remix which is by Beaumont Hannant. Mr. Hannant, who already released some _brilliant_ records himself (expect a new CD called 'Texturology' very soon!), uses only the wavesequence of the original and adds an Aphex-stylee beat and a beautiful strings melody. It's a bit empty but it works. The third remix is by Richard James' friends Seefeel, a guitar-band. (what's a guitar i hear you ask). This remix is quite ironic: a guitarband remixing an electronic band, it used to be the other way around. Seefeel also use the wavesequence and not much else of the original. It's got the typical Seefeel 'long-distance' guitar-sounds with lots of reverb 'n' delay. Unfortunatly it's a bit too long while too little happens. 0,04 Is IMHO together with together with 0,02 the best reworking of 'Basscadet'. The rhythmtrack is a kind of distorted 'Black Dog'-style rhythm and again we hear some beautiful strings. Track 5 is a dub version as the title already suggests. It's the most 'ambient' track on this CD. It's very nice for about 3 and a half minutes. A message for all the Dutch Autechre-fans: Wednesday they'll play at the Mazzo in Amsterdam. WAP 45CD - Seefeel - Starethrough EP - Warp CD single tracks: Starethrough 7m22 Air-eyes 5m31 Spangle 7m15 Lux1 4m26 This is the first release of Seefeel on Warp. It's also the first release on Warp with guitars on _all_ the tracks. I must say i didn't really expect very much from this, but it's actually quite good. Seefeel make a kind of ambient music with guitars and some samples. They already released 2 (?) EPs and a full-length (?) CD. Richard James (who?) remixed one of their tracks and he even DJed at their live-shows, but i guess you know this already. I especially like track 1, which has a slight reggae-feel to it, and track 4, which almost could have been on SAWII. If you close your eyes while listening to it, you'll expect to be on some distant planet when you open them again. The other two tracks are very good too, but track 3 is just a bit too long. Although Seefeel use guitars, it's not strange to see them on Warp. Their sounds are so processed with reverb and delay they don't even sound like guitars anymore sometimes. A nice and dreamy EP. Both Warp CDs again have beautiful sleeve-designs by The Designers Republic again. NoMu 30 - Plastikman - Recycled Plastik - Novamote records CD-EP tracks: Krakpot Elektrostatik Spaz Gak Remix Naturalistik Spastik Wellllll, a lot has been said about this already on idm, so i'll keep this review short. I must say i quite like the Plastikman-releases thus far. I really enjoy the hypnotic and very percussive work-outs of Ritchie Hawtin, They're great for dancing _and_ listening. The Atmosphere in the tracks is really good. But, as has been said before, the 2 new songs on this CD are not Plastikman's best. I guess they were some leftovers Novamute could't resist to release. It's nice to have the other tracks on CD though. All right. This were my first ever reviews. I hope you enjoyed them. If you have comments, please mail them to me. Thank you and goodbye. -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hans Veneman ! ! Damrif 15 ! veneman@tv99ad.hacktic.nl ! 8224 AE Lelystad ! !
