because that is when the fad was raging and that's all we have to reference to, now that the fad has died we keep looking back in hopes to get a taste of the glory days, people keep asking "what happened"! It was a musical fad people, time to move on to your respective genres, IDM is over, it never was a genre, it never will be
thus a great deal of people like me who used to listen exclusively to aphex, squarepusher, and autechre, now listen to everything from Nora Jones to the latest Progressive Trance and House mixes, I love Paul Van Dyk, haha, IDM is dead
