Yeah, the new Kallikak Family album is really nice. Don't be scared away by
the word "family" in the name, as it's definitely not folk music! And I
think it's mostly made by just one guy.
I can see how some people might say it's similar to The Books, since it has
a couple of tracks with acoustic guitar. But the majority of the album is
ambient drones, field recording, and strange noises. And despite the
overall experimental vibe, it also manages to be catchy and emotionally
moving.
Overall, this is a pretty unique release... Perhaps similar in spirit to the
lo-fi, non-pretentious experimental music on Lucky Kitchen.
