If you're on a Unix system, ask your admin about setting up procmail,
and then add this line to your .procmailrc
:0 Wh: msgid.lock
| /usr/bin/formail -D 8192 msgid.cache
That will only allow through one copy of any message- it's worked quite
well for me.
