hello and welcome to summer!
carpark records newsletter for july 2002
here's what's on the table.
carpark cures for basic problems
who's touring where
carpark gossip
trivia contest and special prizes
don't look under the table!
no releases for carpark in july but we're getting ready for
big things in august and september. august 20th will see the release
of the highly-anticipated signer cd/double lp "low light dreams."
it's been almost two maybe three years since signer's last full
length "giving it up to feel effected" came out on their involve
label out of new zealand. this one's gonna make everyone feel real
good. plus if you want it before everyone else we're going to be
selling it on the carpark website
(<
http://www.carparkrecords.com/carparkshop.html>www.carparkrecords.com/carparkshop.html)
in a few weeks!
casino versus japan's new record "whole numbers play the basics" is
slated for september release. and like signer, it's been a few years
since their last record, "go hawaii." if "go hawaii" was casino vs
japan's "surfin safari" then "whole numbers play the basics" is his
"pet sounds." get it? this one's gonna go well with the change of
seasons.
we know we told you last time that the kit clayton/safety scissor's
ping pong cd was coming out in october, but mr. scissor's laptop was
stolen at SONAR last month, so we have to push the release date back
to november. ok?
carpark is also excited to announce the release of its second dvd.
coming in november will be the dvd debut of 242.pilots. 242.pilots
is a video-making trio consisting of kurt ralske (formerly of
cathars, ultra vivid scene), lukasz lysakowski, and JC gilje. the
dvd will contain a solo piece by each artist and a live improvised
trio piece with music by justin bennett that was recorded from a
performance in brussels. we can't wait for this one.
tours tours everywhere but not a bit of sleep
carpark is planning multiple tours for the end of the year. signer
will be touring non-stop starting in october. they're tentatively
scheduled to tour north america with pan-american (kranky) and radian
(thrilljockey, mego) and we're currently working on europe for
november. let us know if you are interested in helping set up a
show. nothing is confirmed yet but we're trying to get together a
carpark europe tour. we'll let you know the details if we got em in
the next newsletter!
a carpark japan tour is also in the works for later this year.
again, this isn't confirmed yet but we will let you know the details
as soon as we get them.
greg davis will be playing a going-away show in boston on july 15th
at bar 608. he and hrvatski will also be playing with 242.pilots in
brooklyn on the 19th at a currently undisclosed location. check the
carpark website in a few days for more details.
what you talking about?
so yes....lots to talk about this month. greg davis will be
relocating to chicago later this month. if you are in chicago say
hi! also if you are living in japan you might be interested to know
that greg's "arbor" record will be licensed by p-vine for release in
a few months.
we are expecting the birth of a little marumari any day now. our
best wishes go out to josh and sasha! since finishing his sci-fi
novel, josh has recently been working on a series of cave paintings.
takagi masakatsu is keeping as busy as ever. not only did he release
the "opus pia" cd AND dvd on carpark in may, but his "eating" record
has just come out on germany's karaoke kalk label. it's a little
different than his carpark stuff so check it out. not only that but
his "journal for people" cd and dvd have just been released in japan
on daisyworld (<
http://www.daisyworld.co.jp>www.daisyworld.co.jp).
takagi has also just returned from a trip to guatamala. you can
check out the photos and lots more on his website
(homepage.mac.com/utono)
ogurusu norihide is giving takagi a run for his money. if you are
living in japan you have seen the release of two ogurusu titles in
june: the carpark "humour" cd and the "modern" cd on p-vine.
hopefully the "modern" cd will be available to the rest of the world
on carpark early next year. we also hope to bring ogurusu norihide
over to north america and europe to tour as well. check out
ogurusu's website at
<

if you are in new york you can see some of the music so takahashi has
prepared for a new exhibit opening on the 18th at the guggenheim. so
has also recently designed the cd package for the ogurusu norihide
"humour" cd and will be putting together the design and layout for
the upcoming carpark compilation.
trivia smivia
it's time for the carpark trivia contest. the first person to get the
right answer to carpark wins any type of carpark merchandise. that
includes the carpark keychain or the craprak t-shirt. the question:
what is the meaning of craprak?
ok...good luck and see you next month....
best,
todd
