Music and opinion are intertwined.
I guess just for the sake of conversation - I agree with others that I
enjoy a lot of IDM for the novelty and the lack of connection to various
ideologies, you can enjoy the aural experience and really get into it
in an almost escapist fashion.
I dunno, I was thinking about how ideologies apply to IDM, and
how you can't really divine one artists' political ideologies from another
just by listening to their music.
I think a lot of IDM artists who are interviewed stick close to talking
about their music and the process, and not their beliefs. I'm not saying
this is a bad thing - but in indie, punk, rap, funk, etc etc you hear a
lot more expression of one's beliefs instead of just the music. There's
more of a message.
Just something to think about. I believe it's important for people to make
a stand or at least express their opinons, but that's something that comes
into play very little with regards to the music this list talks about. I'm
not saying that's right or wrong, I'm just saying.
Considering the US is being run by a fascist republican cabinet bent on
"stablizing" the rest of the world as a distraction while undermining it's
own internal systems for the profit of the few, I think expressing
alternative opinions is even more necessary than ever (is it ever more or
less relevant? I guess not.)
My 2 cents.
I haven't done that since 1935.
