I have only one thing to say about this topic, which is that I freely admit to hardly ever "understanding" music. Sometimes it's better not knowing what the man behind the green curtain is really up to. If I do eventually gain some insight into some particular work, it's usually because someone else told me about it or I read it somewhere (like this list). Yeah, I'm basically a dummy.
