Yea... valid points Julia. I guess not everyone is going to like them
and I see what you mean about certain aspects of their show. The
reason they get so much hype in SF is because they are locals. No one
really pays any attention to them anywhere else, so they at least
deserve the support of their hometown.
Yes. They might come off as pretentious, but I don't think they are
taking themselves entirely seriously. If I was in a band that wore
spacesuit-like uniforms, had as many light and fog machines as they do
and sang songs through telephones, I'd want someone to give me two
kicks in the ass if I didn't have a sense of humor about it. I think
the whole artsy-fartsy thing is just part of their aesthetic. Is that
anything new to San Francisco though? ;) Also, did you not notice
how "into it" their drummer is? That guy has more energy and
enthusiasm than just about every idm laptop performer i've ever seen
put together. As the ex-drummer of Pansy Division, I don't think he
has too much room to take himself too seriously.
Anyway... sorry for the rant. I'm done now. Maybe you shouldn't go
check out I am Spoonbender. Maybe you should.
