This DJ says "Oh yes".

The default is that the effect is only "on" when the pad sense a touch.
It depends on the effect, but for the most part, once you release your
finger from the pad, the effect turns off. Effect #30 (which I call
"Fucked up spacey delay" for lack of better words) leaves a slight trail
after letting go, as do some other echo-y effects.
But even then, there's the "F/X ON OFF" button on the right of the pad
that you can use to kill absolutely everything.
So the answer is: Yes and yes.
As long as your mixer makes it easy to kill f/x, though.

For a toy I bought over a year ago, I'm a little surprised it's getting
such "professional" use...
My main complaints with the Kaoss pad are:
* The RCA jacks. Why not options for quarter inch?
* The precision/resolution of each axis for effects. Having only 10
possible values for each axis/effect, especially for echo, seems awfully
limited.
Still though, it's a damn fun toy. I think I got my money's worth by now,
which was $300 (and I wasn't even looking for a deal.)... Hell, it saved
a Bassland gig I participated in the day after I bought it!
$350?
Ouch. Have they really gone up since?
