It depends pretty much on how much RAM there is. It can only use
proprietary Akai RAM. Akai wanted £95 for 3/4 of Megabyte for S950 RAM.
Somewhere some firms sell RAM that will work for a lot less but it is still
really expensive.
The S1000 is a far better machine than the S2000 and subsequently costs more
than a new S2000. I think it sounds far more gritty, I'd definitely get one
if I could afford to. It is a shame it won't work with Steinberg Re-Cyle
though.
