I think kid606 is ok, but I don't think he's as 'brilliant' as everyone says he is. I think his music is good, but I think the main reason everyone's so in to him right now is that he's prolific. I think there are better artists right now who aren't producing much so no one's paying attention to them. Richard Devine has been laying low, but he's better than the kid. I think lexaunculpt may have some surprises coming as well. Maybe. I also think Jake Mandell is an excellent US artist, although I'm not too fond of Underling. I think the ultimate of brilliance + prolific = aphex. But then people disagree, so... I just said that to point out that people talk of him less now because he hasn't done much lately either. My point is that no matter how good you are, if you don't release anything you're nothing to the public. kid606 is ok, but i think it's more the fact that he's releasing right now that's getting him lots of attention.

vespers seems to be a 'goodbye' to the now defunct indie label vespertine. he had one track on one of their compilations (murder in the company of the vespertine). that track was similar to vespers, sort of. i think they're more his 'old' style, the type of tracks he had on his Soup album. However, that comment only makes sense if one assumes that the first three tracks on Mauver are somehow representative of a 'new' sound... i don't know -- Adam Piontek [http://www.tcinternet.net/users/damek/] ICQ: 3456339 [damek@earthling.net] ...
