I agree with everything. I feel like this album needs two more tracks to be
fully complete, however. It ends and leaves me wanting, which is only good.
But they really do work well together and their styles and personalities
mesh like Pen and Teller. I like The Orb when the emphasis is more
mechanical, robotronic. That pulsating and driving backdrop Felhmann has
mastered is the perfect accompaniment for alx¹s easy way with tossing
samples through effects and spinning them in space. There has been some
stellar stuff in the post Badorb era but there have been albums like The
Dream where I tend to skip over tracks with heavy vocals and traditional
instrumentation. The stuff with Lee Scratch Perry was great. But this. .
.This is thankfully dub and female crooner free. It reminds me of
Orbilivion, Felhmann¹s astoundingly good Gute Luft soundtrack, bits and
pieces of Okie Dokie, and something perhaps a little new. It strikes me how
old they both look and that brings to me the realization how old I¹ve
become. I popped on Pomme Fritz the other day and I imagined that if AFX
released that today we¹d be talking about how he¹s always one step ahead.
Just staggering to think when that came out. I think this new album feels
a half step ahead. I also hope they keep fussing about like an old married
couple and eat little lunches together and smoke some weed and put out a few
albums, each a little more brilliant and someday we might finally see
something to top Orbus Terrarum.

a couple of my observations:
1. seems like alex has moved to using a lot shorter samples/segments to make
loops, basically sort of adapting some of fehlmann's ideas to his style,
which i think is clever. also probably nowadays, without a huge label and
with all the copyright infringment madness, the whole sample heavy style of
the past sort of had to go. its a smart way to adapt i think.
2. it looks like fehlmann is using ableton, i think they mentioned that? i
wonder what % of the album is tiny loops of the cdj recorded right into
ableton in their house, also a smart idea.
3. overall i really like the album, it does remind me a lot of okie dokie
but there is clearly an evolution here specifically that i feel like
patterson is maybe (again just guessing here) more obviously present adding
his color to the mix and fehlmann just bringing his usual cool mellow funk
to hold everything together. really feels like fehlmann and patterson
hitting their stride as a new incarnation of the orb that hopefully puts out
a few more albums.
4. can't wait to hear what the critics say all the same lol, one in
particular..
