No - I would have to disagree with that. I also play out and it is necessary to conform to the tone of the gig and if - as the original poster - you have been "ASKED" to play an electro set, then that's what the promoter/ organiser wants you to play. As the hired DJ, that's what's you're expected to deliver. You are there to do a job, no to have a public wank. If, on the other hand, someone hears you play a freestyle set and on the basis of that asks you to do their party, by all means, indulge yourself. Afterall, you are free to play the records you 'really like' in your bedroom any time you choose. Oh, and on the electro recommendations query, I'd say pop on some of Luke Slater's recent Wireless album. Good luck for the gig!
