from someone whose postings are usually quite well thought out and on the
ball, the comment above is quite hard to take seriously, so excuse me if it
was meant to be 'humorous' - but yes, autechre are known to more than a
handful of people who don't read this list. i would call you hopelessly
naive, but maybe your definition of a 'handful' differs from mine. after
all, everything in america is bigger than over here! the mainstream press
(in the uk at least) don't review autechre records for the benefit of a
couple of hundred list members.
as for what 'idm' stands for, well yes, i can't argue with that. it takes a
peculiar breed of obsessive to be pompous enough to call a certain kind of
music 'intelligent'. normal people call autechre 'electronic'.
