I believe this message is obliquely related to IDM, if you use your imagination. My apologies
if you disagree..
Back around 1991 or 1992, someone made a tape copy for me of a song which
started out with a woman's voice saying "Know who's in New York? Remember that
guy.. J - John somebody? He - he was a - he was sort of a.." and then the rest
of the song was built around the melody and rhythm of the words she said. The
story that was passed around with it was that the next unincluded word was
"jerk". Very Reich-like, using the intrinsic melody of the voice that we
usually don't listen for.
Of course that tape is long gone, and I have zero idea who the artist was. I do
remember it may have been included on some kind of experimentalish music
sampler, and it had a frantic electric guitar solo, so the artist may have been
partly a guitarist.
If this rings a bell for anyone, please let me know. (privately is fine)
Thank you!
Andy
