Lance mentioned a couple of recent Noto works -- Empty Garden, and the cd under the Alva Noto moniker. Empty Garden, let it be noted, is extremely minimal, high-frequency stuff that brings to mind Ryoji Ikeda -- at times it's actually quite painful to listen to (literally), so be forewarned. Alva Noto, on the other hand, represents Carsten Nicolai's newest alter ego, and is the name for his more "melodic," rhythmically-oriented projects (as opposed to his more austere sound-design explorations). The Alva Noto CD (the name of which completely escapes me) I have to say I find to be possibly his best work yet. I wholeheartedly recommend it even if you're not into extreme glitch. Even cooler - Nicolai is currently at work on a *string quartet*, reportedly in the vein of Reich... very exciting. The requisite plug: for more info on Nicolai check the interview at http://www.urbansounds.com/us_current/thumbnail/nicolai_1.html. Also, keep your eyes peeled for a Nicolai feature in *Surface magazine in about 2 months...
