in the latest XLR8R, doc scott makes a great point about how jungle has
had to make do over the past couple years without its leaders being
involved in a scene they helped create. since photek, roni size, goldie,
etc. have signed contracts, their output has slowed to a snail's pace.
likewise in the above, i remember back in the 'rez' days when it seemed
like there were new underworld records every time i turned around, but now
they're doing shows and talking about their next stuff coming out in six
months..there's a definite schism between the production schedules of
independent artists and labelled ones - and perhaps this would be better
posed to a producer's list - but i wonder what the benefits are for them
to make that change. i don't know much about the workings of big label
electronic music, but i see no reason to think that the situation is much
different from the one described in steve albini's "the problem with
music."
