It all begins with Manuel Gottsching and his 1984 electronic
masterpiece called E2-E4. Many consider this 60 minute piece
to be one of the first electronic dance tracks. You'll hear
many of the detroit legends attribute Manuel's E2-E4 as a big
influence. In fact, E2-E4 still sound quite fresh even today.
Several years later an Italian act called Sueno Latino decided
to remake E2-E4 into a much dancier house track. Sueno Latino's
remake called "Sueno Latino" went on to become one of house's
first "hits." There were a host of remixes released on Italy's
DFC and Belgium's Buzz label including some by Carl Craig and
Derrick May. Recently there was a new set of remixes released
on the Distinctive UK label which include the classic Craig &
May remixes.
Carl then used healthy bits of E2-E4 for his 1994 Paperclip
People classic "Remake" which was released on Planet E and
Open UK. Carl then had Basic Channel remix his "Remake" track.
I believe several other IDM acts have sampled Gottsching's
E2-E4. Future Sound of London and Bukem are two that come
to mind.
E2-E4 related must haves:
. Maneul Gottsching: E2-E4 CD (Racket Records)
. Sueno Latino: The Dream Remixes 12" (DFC)
. Sueno Latino: Derrick May remixes CD/12" (Buzz)
. Sueno Latino: 1997 remixes CD/2x12" (Avex)
. Paperclip People: Remake 12" (Planet E)
. Paperclip People: Throw 12" (Planet E)
I would highly recommend getting any/all of the above
releases.
