From: grav@juno.com (chris r graves) Subject: (idm) recommend analog synth can someone please tell me info about some/all of the following analog synths (i think they are analog). Korg Poly-800 Korg Poly 800 II regarding their amounts of: - -knobs? - -polyphony? - -sound? (well, not amount, but quality... opinionated really) - -(any others?) I've got a Poly 800. It's pretty nice for what you can usually buy them for (around $100). It's 8 voice poly and not multi-timbral. It's an analog/digital hybrid synth, has DCO's, VCF, MG, Noise generator, etc. It's square wave based but will also do a kinda saw tooth wave. There's no knobs, all progamming is done through a digital interface (lots of parameters to tweak with only an 8 digit pad and up/down buttons). There's a a joystick that controls up/down pitchbend, vcf and dco modulation. Makes good bass sounds and nice shimmering sweeping sounds. It's stereo and has chorus built in. 64 memory locations that can be dumped and loaded from tape. It also has a 250 note sequencer built in which is good for appregios since it doesn't have an appregiator built in. It also has midi in/out ports and a headphone jack. The main difference with the II was they added a digital delay. You can get a lot of weird sounds out of it. on now: Hallucinogen "Twisted"
