Max is actually a product originally from IRCAM. It's an open ended
environment which transforms midi input based on a network of transformation
objects that you connect up with a graphical interface.
Max was marketed by Opcode -- this is bad since Gibson has basically
destroyed Opcode after a big fight between Gibson and Opcode executives.
We can only hope that Max will devolve back to someone who will market
and support it.
www.cycling74.com is a good place to start. This is strictly macintosh
software, but considering the flexibility and uniqueness of the product,
you need to compare the $2K or so it takes to buy a mac and get this
running versus similar options, like a Nord Modular, or a Doepfer modular.
