That may be a small reason (ie, you never want to leave the records outside in the sun) but the main reason Goa Gil says he djs from dat is so that he can _carry_ more music with him. This ain't some hop on a plane and take a taxi or get a ride from the promoter gig...You've got to _lug_ things places in India and you go for extended trips where you will be djing a lot to the same people. To keep the sets fresh, you are going to have to lug a LOT of vinyl with you or just a small case of 4hr dats with all of your choicest cuts on them... Not meant to belittle your theory but just to point out that there are other reasons to use dat at times. Sure, some of the finer points of djing go out the window, but, we're talking about goa trance aren't we? And when you can bank on your audience being 1) stoned, 2) frying or 3) so damn happy to be on vacation in a beautiful location far away from daddy but not too far from his Amex card, then your mixing probably doesn't have to be stellar to keep the place groovin'... :-) -- David "plus who can tell when one goa song ends and another begins?"
