artists, the specific genre they are exploiting. I turned away from what was once "alternative" and ended up on the IDM thing thanks to folks like you.<<<<< Folks like me? Brother, I've been in this since 1990, not that gives me any sort of membership card or anything... I'm a firm believer in keeping things down low, but there comes a time when the marketplace demands it. I'm skeptical as you are, but I've seen the pilot - you haven't. I sat down with the person at MTV in January to offer Astralwerks' input on how this show could be the coolest possible, and that's keeping it as underground as possible. No cheesy human hosts like Dave Kendall or Eric Nies or who the fuck ever to goof it up. Videos chosen on visual creativity and musical merit, not how much hype there is. I'm right there with you, it's my greatest fear that once the programmers at MTV see this baby they'll start trying to inject LaBouche videos with fucking fractals in this because they think that that's what we want. Wouldn't you rather have something decent on MTV for once? As someone who grew up watching Peter Gabriel (when he was cutting edge), Adam & The Ants, and all kinds of really cool shit on MTV in its early days, I for one would! As for history repeating itself, it already is, my friend. If you haven't noticed, RAVE music is back. It may not be Belgian hoover synth sounds ala Dominator, et. al., but it's back. We all know what's credible and what's not. There will always be an underground. It's your job and mine to make the mainstream come down to our level, not make the underground rise to the mainstream.
