First a little background for non-UK readers: there is a radio show on
BBC Radio 4 called Desert Island Discs in which celebrities are interviewed
and also play and talk about their favorite music, the idea being "If you
were stuck on a desert island with a record played [or 2 1210s :-) ] which
seven records would you take with you?" Anyway mostly is pretty boring but
I once tuned-in because it was Brian Eno being interviewed and the first
thing he said was that if he was infact stranded alone on a desert island
he would take records in styles which previously he had not been able to
enjoy or find interesting, I can only recall that he gave Thrash Metal as
an example. Obviously he admitted this wasn't the point of the radio show
and he went on to choose his seven favorite tunes, but I thought at the time
that it was a f**king cool thing to say, and showed an open mindedness to all
styles of music which was very refreshing. Come to think of it I met a friend
the other week and on the same day in the same shop he had bought for himself
a Deep Dish CD (deep house) and a Pantera CD (heavy metal/rock)!! Respect to
all those who keep an open mind.
Go easy gang,
