Finally got the Basic Channel compilation as well Ken Ishii's
Jelly Tones, both of which were quite impressive. Thanks to
everyone who recommended places to me that carry these releases.
On the Basic Channel compilation, though - it's quite sedated, to
the point that I'd call it ambient (although some might disagree).
Now this Cyrus character (tracks 1&5) - has he released any full-
lengths of his own? His 'inversion' (track 5) is quite interesting,
and sounds vaguely West African, and I'm hoping he does more stuff
in this vein.
On this note, has anyone heard any releases that incorporate other
ethnic rhythms (preferably Brazillian, North/West African, Caribbean,
or Middle Eastern), not via samples of recordings but rather
reconstructed via drum machines? Richard H. Kirk and Muslimgauze
are the only two artists I can think of, but maybe there are others.
Thanks,
GD
