Well I would much rather see a band play live than use DATS, and why?
Because a live band has scope for improvisation, and reinterpretation of
their tracks. A live band could even be creating new material live on stage.
Also, a band playing live can change course/direction at any time to suit
their mood or the audiences' mood (I remember doing a PA when I was planning
to play my experimental techno stuff but found a whole room full of
teeny ravers/clubbers so took the intelligent stuff as far as I could before
throwing some breakbeats and manic bass in their face and sent them home
with an education :). Playing with DAT is quite inflexible.
Playing live may give the performer a headache but imho its worth it.
