the +8 website (http://www.plus8.com/3.0/html/concept_1.html) makes mention of not only a mix cd of richie hawtin's concept 1 series, which of course i know exists, but also of a concept 5.1 dvd, with a link (http://m-nus.com/flash) that no longer works. does this exist, anywhere, and does anyone have any information regarding it? -- -schrock- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

oh ah .. I have actually seen this .. its quite cool ' and worth a look .. it's not very visual but helps to show what tracks are playing and for how long . so you can begin to see how complex the mix really is. The actual ' quality of the sound mix in 5.1 is good as well. With distinct parts of the sound arriving from different directions. Not to ride Ritchie . but his lead is the future for electronic music. The whole audio world is secretly trying to figure out how to go surround and lead the way with full blown surround performance. Electronic producers have the advantage of working from a midi basis, with instrument environments completely engaged with digital control devices. Which is essentially what you need to fluently manage a mix in 5.1 directions. My primary issue with 5.1 is the .1 .. In terms of interesting sound space Bass sound has the most dynamic range for creating movement or strong bodily sensations of dimension. Of course you run against a fine line of time alinement's and phase cancellations ' but these are actually your tools not your enemies. .. Sadly I have no idea where the Concept 5.1 dvd came from. It was a flyby Techno immersion session while a friend selected records for a gig. We were in and out in 20mins. .simon Kyle Schrock wrote:

Never seen the concept 5.1 album either... also there was a blurb about all the album covers making a giant logo - any pictures of this? I picked up the DE9 dvd and enjoyed the mix though i still think the surround mixes are too 'forward facing'. Only have a handfull of 5.1 mixes and by far and away the best is 'Flaming Lips : Yoshimi vs. the robots'. I know it's not IDM but it's the most surrond engaging performance i've ever heard, and the dvd visuals are dope. speaking of DE9, the wax version is sooo much fun to DJ with, there's something like 50 single groove tracks on 2 LP's that you can have endless knob wankery with.... research, research. --p i did .. wrote:

http://plus8.com/3.0/images/releases/Con1_box_large.gif you can easily see the +8 logo in red, but the other logo is hard to see. it's probably a row of circle logo like on the face of the box. -- -schrock- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

http://www.heftyrecords.com http://www.heftyrecords.com/jh/papercutz.html Introducing to the world! JOHN HUGHES had a messy hard drive full of outtakes, sketches and sound design all stemming for his work under his own name as well as SLICKER and as one half of SOME WATER AND SUN. Instead of just moving them onto DVDs for eternal storage he decided to knot them together and let them play the backfield to a host of MCs. The end result, ?Papercutz Volume 1?, is a bevy of beats nested in the fuzzy pits of LIL? JON, CLIPSE and COMMON... Speaking of nests, is that SIMPLY RED?!?!! And perhaps the most shinning verses are exclusive to this mix. Those of Detroit?s LO LOUIS (featuring on SLUM VILLAGE?s Dirty District) and Japan?s AKIRA SAITO. There is also a two part instrumental version available. This mix comes close on the heels of edIT?s mash-up of the HEFTY RECORDS catalog (?HEFTY Flossed Out Mix?) and there will be more mixes to come. My, my, my. JOHN HUGHES? "Immediate Action #011" 12?EP is due out June 20th in the US and is available for pre-order now in the HEFTY store. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Hello, been about 13 years since I was on this list. Reading my reviews of old fax releases in the archives was quite funny. was doing some research on my music collection that i'm selling pieces of and came accross the this thread on concept5.1 I have a couple of sealed copies of this from Richie Hawtin's presentation @ WMC99. They're in mint condition. If you're interested email me cblohm@gmail.com. I was really keen on the whole music DVD thing and thought it would be a great area to get into. Had emailed him a couple times about working on something, but life took over and moved to london.
