Mmmm... that was a great show ! The venue (Mezzanine) although in a very bad part of town was dope. Lots of bars, well-lit stage and great views of the performers, nice video displays, terrific sound and a coat check. Reminds me a lot of DNA lounge actually. Bummer the bar lacked *any* beer on tap but oh well... at least they had a listing at the door of who was playing when! How rare is that ? So N.E.D was on first DJing (?) via his laptop and starting off with some ambient type music and then picking up the pace a bit towards the end and actually finishing off with a positively uplifting deep bass rumble. Without even the slightest hint of a pause Chris Clark got right into his set which was fucking fabulous and all over the place. I danced from the moment it started until his set ended. A few of the songs he played were recognizeable but mostly it was stuff I'd never heard. The music was really all over the IDM spectrum making for a very well-rounded set. As others have said on the list - this was a very good performance. Next, (sans any break again) came Plaid and this was my first time seeing them. Oh my, as people have said for years - Plaid put on a great show. Imo - the video guy "Bob" was not very impressive at all. Just the same stuff we've seen at clubs and nothing like the caliber of an Orbital or Chemical Brother's show. Also, the video work was only present during Plaid's set and not during the preceding sets. Regardless, Plaid's set was great and the place was just packed wall to wall with people and would you believe it - here we were at an "IDM" show and people were actually dancing ! Hmmm... maybe it wasnt an IDM show but a Warp Tour at a great venue. Dunno, either way people were nice when I apologized after dancing on their toes :) After Plaid's blinding set came Luke Vibert and I've heard time and time again that his shows really leave something to be desired. I got the impression from other's that he just hit's 'play' on the laptop and lights joint after joint until it's time to go. This however was *not* the case last night. Luke put on a very good show (err.... not really moving or anything) behind his laptop and the music was very well thought out with a great selection of his tracks for a very hard and danceable set. So that's my report. And for you spotters out there I was the looney with the dreads in the red Schematic records shirt dancing in front all night ... Next time come up and say hi ! I agree - really fun show overall. Although I didn't expect it - even though I love his work - Chris Clark's set was the high point of the evening - he fully tested out the system with ultra low bass vibrations and excellent breaks, all over the place and really got people dancing. Plaid was nice, but their visuals had an annoying bit where they projected what looked like months of CNN Iraq War coverage in about 5 minutes ... felt very wrong dancing to CNN, very wrong ... anyway - good show, lots of people dancing! I was burned out by the time Vibert went on, he was playing mostly acidy ravey stuff ... sounded good but not really like what his recorded stuff is like. Anyway all in all, great show, well worth the price of admission. dave StaticBeats wrote:

Props to N.E.D. for putting together a logical set of warp favs that hit all the high points -- some []< , some Prefuse, some Autechre, I think I caught an early Black Dog track towards the end.. all sounded great on the big speakers, especially rpeg with the big wet splashy snare. I agree about Chris, he tore it up. It seemed like he'd really put some thought into what would make a visually and sonically interesting live set. I loved his "dolphin speech" realtime vocal manipulations :-) I thought the CNN vid was technically cool; I figure they had a video capture setup and grabbed a two or three seconds out of every minute. Somehow they managed to skip the commercials. Based on what you & others have said, I'm sort of glad we decided to take off at the end of Plaid's set. It was a long drive back and my ears had taken enough abuse, even through the plugs. Must be getting old or something. -- Eric Sorenson - EXPLOSIVE Networking - http://explosive.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

(Newbie alert) This is my first post here, hope I won't make any mistake ;) Plaid made a show here in Paris, in September... The show was called "Plaid + Guests"... But it turned out to be "only" one guest... I didn't know his name until i heard chris clark's latest album, "Empty the bones of you"... This show made me discover this great artist... I bought "Ceramics is the bomb" and I found the tracks I loved during the show (Shonny and Rob Lee... Great tracks) I have some impressions that are the same as yours: first, only Plaid had VJ Performances... The CNN one was not so bad, but I prefered New Family and Zeal (by the way, the "official" Zeal video is totally different from the one I saw) It was my first IDM live show, and I really loved it... A bit short, a bit "cold" (the least we can say is that it was REALLY shown as IDM, I mean you weren't able to dance because of the location) Last but not least, are you all guys from US and Canada?
