A few mini-reviews we've been listening to over here.. :D -- -- -- Hybrid Components :: Compilation CD --Component Records :: http://componentrecords.com Hybrid Components represents the Component Records' sound quite well. Dark and expansive layers of gritty drill'n bass are tied to post-industrial leanings making this CD well worth the rotation. With folks like Gridlock, Proem, Panacea, Codec, Somatic Responses be prepared for an audio assault on the ears, feet and mind.. Phasmid :: Cooper is on Bubbles Remixes CD --Skylab Operations :: http://skylaboperations.com Skylab operate their facility in Austria but have engaged some of the finest tracks from Birmingham, Alabama based Phasmid (aka Kell Simon). On this remix compilation CD we see the likes of Books on Tape, Skope, Formatt and Satellite Grooves (to name a few) offering up their renditions of "Cooper is on Bubbles".. the result? --a fine mix of multiple genre electronics that is sure to please many folks looking for the intersection between fun and funky. 2088 :: Compilation CD (Skylab Operations) --Skylab Operations :: http://skylaboperations.com Bright, shiny, exuberant, and full of melodies, the 2088 Compilation shows us that Skylab definitely have a knack at releasing music that is both eclectic and accessible at the same time. Moments of sheer simplicity are manifested with finesse while the music spans multiple formats without a trace of ambiguity. Expect Drum'n Bass, IDM, Glitch, Basstronics, Funk, Electro and a blanket of soothing rhythms. Laced Milk :: Compilation (03/2003) CDr (Laced Milk Tech.) The LunarBliss :: (2003) CDr (Laced Milk Tech.) Bipolar Controller :: (04/2003) CDr (Laced Milk Tech.) --Laced Milk Technologies :: http://lacemilk.com Based in Florida, Laced Milk Technologies are making quite an impact on a global level. While their music hasn't been officially released as of yet, their distinctive electro-breaks sound must be heard to be fully appreciated. The folks behind Laced Milk have a genuine passion for producing bassbin rattling rhythms with some of the widest beats around. Laced Milk is the formation of Rudy (Line Noise), Andres (Bipolar Controller), Rick (Blunted Minds) and, Rob (K-Dence) and Teresa (Pupila).. Watch your bassbins, we're tellin' ya.. Vytear: The Great Rubber Audio CD --G25 Productions :: http://g25productions.com Morgan Beltz (aka Vytear --"vy-tare") has just released his debut for the newborn G25 label located in Brookline, MA. "The Great Rubber Audio" represents his recorded work during his stay in SF from 2000-2002. A mixture of varied electrical experiments is the focus while DSP driven electro and manipulated beats form the foundation of this disjointed CD. With Plaid (Warp Records) taking a liking to Vytear's audio structures one can surely agree that Vytear is one to look out for! Abstract Polygon/Mad EP :: Deselect Mindbox/Mavoo's 3rd Day of 2nd Grade CD (Tribal Treble) --Tribal Treble Records :: http://tribal-treble.com Abstract Polygon & Mad EP form this split EP CD with Winnipeg, Canada Based Tribal Treble Records. "Deselect Mindbox" is the work of Abstract Polygon with the first 8 cuts representing his music --tangled electronics are infested to the max with abrasive melodies falling ever so slightly into the drill'n bass arena. The other 10 tracks are by the classically trained cellist of 14 years, Mad EP. With a slightly more abstract feel, Matthew Peters manages to ignite his machines with a fusion of hip-hop, jazz and furious basslines. Arne Nordheim :: Dodeka CD Rune Grammofon :: http://www.runegrammofon.com One of the most distinguished and influential personalities in Norwegian music, Arne Nordheim releases "Dodeka" (meaning 12 in Greek). Never before available on record until now, these compositions are made from the building blocks and basic elements from Nordheim's work in Warsaw between 1967 and 1972. Considering the primitive working methods and the equipment available at the time, "Dodeka" is also special in that it's sonic qualities are quite astounding with a clarity and character all of their own. Highly recommended. Input/Output :: Cross Country Tour 2003 Compilation CDr Input/Output :: http://scumm.net/~inputoutput Input/Output is a relatively new label based on the fringes of LA County. With 12 tracks of obscure and distorted frequencies, "Cross Country" displays its malnourished beats and melodies with ambient tendencies. Look for abrupt digital disruptions and slightly visible melodies veering off into space while casually de-focused electronics breath life into broken Atari systems.. -- -- -- Pietro. // // -- DIGITAL::NIMBUS :: exp.electronic RADIO friday night mid-3am (pst) kuci 88.9 fm // -- www.kuci.org & www.digitalnimbus.com // -- p.o. box 443, orange, california, 92856 // -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
