It's always nice to see another person willing to try and scale the mountain of releases that is King Crimson. If you want late-60's, early-70's type prog rock, I'd recommend the following : King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) King Crimson - Lizard (1970) King Crimson - Lark's Tongue in Aspic (1973) King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black (1974) If you enjoy the Talking Heads, you may want to check out the 80's incarnation of KC, with Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, Adrian Belew and Tony Levin: King Crimson - Discipline (1981) King Crimson - Beat (1982) King Crimson - Three of a Perfect Pair (1984) Discipline is buy far the best of those three. If you want to get into the 90's, when things went in an entirely different direction there have only been two albums, but there's a third on the way: King Crimson - Thrak (1995) King Crimson - The Construction of Light (2000) Thrak is more accessible, but CoL is very rewarding upon careful listening. There are also close to 40 live releases from all eras of the band. Here's a few links that might help... Strange that you omitted the best album they ever made... "Red", of course. :) The two essential KC releases IMO are "Red" and "Discipline". On a slightly less essential level, "In the Court of the Crimson King". hah, sweet. The library was clearing out a bunch of old records it had in storage from the time in the 80's when it was a radio station, and was giving it all away. Most of it was crap, except for an Allan Sherman record and a King Crimson record. I hadn't heard anything by King Crimson, but heard that they had done some pretty cool stuff. So I snagged it. This talk today reminded me of it and so I went to go look at the label, and it's "Discipline." Kick ass!
