Tournesol-Henka (Apollo/Belgium) I realize I'm abotu 3 months behind on this, but I finally heard a track from the Tournesol "Kokotsu" album last night. It totally blew me away (Can Apollo do no wrong?!? I heard another Ken Ishii track from Deep Space right before it that was great.). Has anyone seen "Kokotsu" in a store recently? I wonder how hard it'll be for me to find it 4 months after the fact ... Also, there was a Top 10 list posted sometime back with

Are you (Number 19) sure that your double 2x12" is on Rising High? I have a double 12" on R&S (R&S 93026) which has these colorful figurines that look like a cross between car crash dummies (i.e., drawn without facial hair etc., very "figure study" type drawings) and Poirot dolls kinda sorta. There are lots of bright colors on it, fluorescent pink, bright yellows, etc. A couple of the figures on the front are drawn running, others look more carnival-esque, there's even a butterfly-like figure on the back with a "human" head. Is this what you're talking about? It, too, has no identifying characteristics whatsoever, no titles, no credits, no speed ratings (33 or 45?), etc. Over on the IDM list, Richard Vandooren posted an Apollo discography that claimed

but this is most emphatically *not* true; the tracks on RS 93026 are *not* "Henka" or "Cathedral". It's a completely different release altogether. I suspect the double 12" is the first Tournesol release, as the track "Henka" on the above-mentioned Apollo 12" appears on "Kokotsu". As for Christoper Allen's original query, I'd have to say most emphatically that the answer to "Has the rest of the stuff on Apollo as of late been of this caliber?" is a most definite "Absolutely!". The recent albums on Apollo have included: Locust - "Weathered Well" (AMB 9329) Phenomenal Jam & Spoon - "Triptomatic Fairy Tales 2002" (AMB 9330) [Not heard] Tournesol - "Kokotsu" (AMB 3931) Uzect Plaush - "More Beautiful Human Life!" (AMB 3932) Wonderful Cabaret Voltaire - "The Conversation" (AMB 3934) Very good I'd be interested to hear what AMB 3933 is, or if there have been any newer album releases on Apollo since "The Conversation".

You are absolutley correct. You caught me confusing my R&S with my Rising High. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused anyone. Peace, 19.

Hey, I've been listenning to Tournesol's "Kokotsu" a lot lately--does anyone have info on this person (Tommy Gee ?) like discography, equipment used, etc? I'm guessin from listenning to it that the filters are from sh101, jx-something or juno 6, and some cheap cv analog, and a sampler. The music I find very soulful and moody, yet kinda crunchy and a good use of non-analogue waveforms (good digital pads/filtered). I highly reccomend this to idm'ers, though I don't buy much stuff, I'd say it is between Amorphous Androgynous (minus 75% of the ambient noises, birds, whales, and whatnot) and Autechre, though the filtery digi-pads remind me of Pentatonik, though the programming is not so... layered... and song-like. I love the weird/backwards-sounding choir voices on "electric church" and the kinda art-prog-rock way it just opens and closes with that 'theme'. Tournesol is actually 2 people - Tommy Gee and Thomas Lynge. They've got a newa album out on R&S very soon, called 'Moonfunk', which has had pretty favourable reviews in the music press so far. It's supposed to be a bit different to Kokotsu, lots of different styles. Also, they played live at this year's Love Parade, and the review in Mixmag said they were really crap...
