I have figured out a way to send CD data out over the MBONE. It turns out that this little AIWA DiscMan-type portable CD player I just got has a separate Line Out that really *is* a line out, as opposed to others I've seen which just basically parrot the Headphone out. Unfortunately, the line level is too high for my poor ol' SPARCstation IPC, as that only has a Microphone In and no Line In. So I can't send direct from my office, alas. On the other hand, the Speaker Box on Sun SPARCstation-10 systems *does* have a Line In that seems to be impedance matched well to my Line Out. Doing some simple tests showed that the sound quality of MBONE broadcasts (using "vat") is fairly acceptable even without an intermediate mixer, although I *do* have some external powered speakers to test with instead of the built-in cheesy little workstation speaker. Given this state of affairs, I could probably grab a Radio Free VAT slot to pump out IDM over the MBONE, if there's sufficient interest. If you have MBONE access, drop me a line (or reply to the list) as to the nominal hours you have access to the MBONE. (Please, no "What is MBONE?" questions. If you don't know what it is, you probably don't have MBONE access. If you're not sure, check out the MBONE FAQ at this URL: "file://venera.isi.edu/mbone/faq.txt".) If there's a majority of people that can listen at a particular time, I can get things going. IDM discs currently sitting on my desk at the moment, ready to waft out over The Internet in all their 8-bit glory at any time: - Dr. Atmo/Ramin "Sad World 2" - Locust "Weathered Well" - Beaumont Hannant "Texturology" - Various Artists "Freezone 1: The Phenomenology of Ambient" - Sandoz "Intensely Radioactive" - Autechre "Incunabula" - Killing Joke "Millenium" CDS - Killing Joke "Pandemonium In Dub" CDS - Cabaret Voltaire "The Conversation" - Greg
