As for me: "alternative", (whince) DM, new order, camouflage (sp?), peter murphy then came IHH? Intelligent Hip Hop? De La, Tribe, P.E., then came soundtrack/new age/ambient from Harold Budd to T. Dream, Vangelis, "Passion" and "Birdy" this morphed directly into Dead Can Dance. I don't know of any music that is the same 'style' as theirs, they seem to have developed a unique one. This is no topic for IDM, but personal e-mail me if you know of any comparable artists! PLEASE! Somewhere in there was 808:90, which led to the techno thing. You know, to tell the truth, what REALLY led me to IDM was my interest in internet; I didn't really 'flow' from some other type of music into IDM, I just kind of picked it up cold frmo reading this list. (er, FROM reading) cool. And, during all this, jazz. And industrial. Tear Garden. yeah. "Twitch" by Ministry. Now for me, these styles have been cumulative. My CD collection (such as it is) is kind of hodge-podge. Good, but hodge-podge:) Lovin this thread- b.
