Music for Shopping is a compliation by my friend James Towning. He has already
put a post, briefly about it, but I figured people might appreciate it if you
knew who was on it.
Pollyanna Smartass -- "regarding lee's story." a goofy trac between james and
and a past so. stuttery samples, choppy beats, weird structures. neat.
Barbie Jeep -- "fripp speaks." local electronic guru and legend andrew izold
assaults us with a random panning circuit and neat sounds. mostly 12
bit samples (s.10) of robert fripp talking about making love, etc.
and, its motivating.
Adultery Unlimited -- "nerve." another underground groovy mf with big bass and
fat breaks running through his mind at all times, jerrold smith asks
His friend tsines to put some analogue sweep noises overtop this
dubby groove trac. a rare type of electronic music, not necessarily
sounding like it is made with just a few machines.
Cathode Raymonde -- "the key to love" kind of FSOL intro, nice female vocal
samples and the like, with neat synth pads. goes on a journey of synth
pop, bleep tones, and doesn't quite come back to the beginning. weird
that a cat wrote a lot of this. hmm.
Groovy Virgin -- "Cell" WHERE DID THIS COME FROM? wow, i never thought that
any other ruff groovy breakbeat stuff was coming out of columbus aside
from body release. well produced, good proportions of everything.
baffling. also kind of aphex twin-ish at the same time. noisy.
Evolution Control Committee -- "Ground Hog" fellow netter mark g strums up the
funniest and neatest stuff. full of ground hog samples, this dirge is
very catchy and i find myself singing it in my head all the time. weird
Fuck Jesus -- "The Industrial Scene" mr. fuck jesus will be appearing at the
cooper stadium the same time as billy graham i hear. doing some live
tracs. this is a little dive into the days of long ago, with breakbeats
909's and svs (stupid vocal samples.) huh, i am suprised people still
do this shit. i would have thought people would finally get over this
formula of moaning processed vocals, noisy processed synths, and even
more processed (heavily) cheesy drum machines.
Grae's Assembly -- "Rest" a blast from the past, a synth pop sound ala new
order/electronic with lots of hooks. good to hear that someone actually
does this stuff at home too. moving keyboards and basslines.
Alois -- "4.K.I.M. (killer instinct module)" another offering from andrew izold
of the now defunct 10 speed guillotine. really neat structures, sounds
and sample to captivate and hold the experimental ear of some.
M-Division -- "Psychomatic" this one has the word "rave" written all over it.
psycho samples, breakbeats, deep kicks, and soaring synth lines. a very
musically inclined offering from the next MOBY, jody den broeder.
impressive.
Theory Collapse -- "Drift" armed with only two EPS's, matt and mike take a stab
at the portamento based detriot/warp sound and add some ruff samples
of drifting through the universe and aim it at the NYC trance scene.
hard and "drifty."
Jeff Central/Chris Phinney -- "Thermal Blooming" the other half of 10 speed and
chris phinney create some new form of music by combining ambient,
noise, industrial, and techno to percolate through your mind. very
good in the respect that you can't pin it down. well constructed.
Full Brain -- "Threshold (Part one)" some no-name gets ahold of a juno 106, a
dr.660, and a CD player and puts together a beautifully produced trac
that sweeps you off your feet and carries you intro the stratosphere.
amazing what one can do with such little equipment and bit of
creativity. good job mjbrown. we finally know what goes on in your hed.
Ambience Recovery System -- "Clear Noise" 2/3'rds of b|re and fellow netters
put together an improvised piece of stock roland sounds, a breakbeat in
three, and a slew of cheap voltage controlled devices. filmed mostly '
from the subconscious, on the spot in a bedroom.
the future: an e x p a n s i o n of black music. look for this release on
other formats soon (CD or vinyl!) as well as some of the artists with
solo releases. and more cassettes to follow.
