Not sure how many people know this, but Beatport will be making some changes and relaunching on January 21; details here: http://thenewbeatport.com I urge Beatport users to watch the videos about the changes and if there's things not announced that you would like to see, that you go to "about Beatport", then "contact", then "ask a question" and send your requests in. Note, I'm not affiliated in Beatport in any way, I just would like to see some changes to it and am worried that the few things I would like to see change (see below) might not be on the cards. My requests might not be a big deal for some, but they're a big deal for me. For those who might be interested, here's what I just sent to Beatport re: the about Beatport>contact>ask a question form: Hi. Really enjoying seeing what some of the new features of Beatport will be with the relaunch on January 21. I have 2 requests that I'm hoping will be part of the relaunch: #1: currently I have to rename any files downloaded from Beatport because they start with a long number instead of artist name, song title, label, or some information that I would find more useful. Other download sites that I use do not have this issue (ie I do not need to rename tracks downloaded from elsewhere), so hopefully this can be fixed. #2: I'd really like the options to a) download artwork related to a purchased release and b) have all files from a release put in a named folder and c) have these folders be available as zips for faster downloading. Again, these 3 things are available from some download sites I use and I find them very helpful and much appreciated. Again, very much looking forward to the already-announced updates to Beatport for January 21, but hoping that the above, especially the removal of the long number at the start of downloaded files so I will not have to rename them, will be addressed as well. yeah, well your suggestions are bang on. unfortunately, i'm afraid that beatprt has been infected with the pretentious, grandiose, and ultimately ridiculous bullsh1t that minus has been doing the past few years. Beatport affecting your sense of taste? STFU. Beatport's built their business by impressing the sort of lame-a55 DJ's whose taste is entirely in their mouths. Call me elitist, but as soon as genres like trance and progressive are presented with a straight face next music i care about, their credibility was gone. and yeah i felt strongly enough about it to type it one-handed. totally agreed on your additional points. i'm excited about the new changes, but feel they could go further. renaming files is annoying. beatport is my first DL site i joined, probably the first outside of bleep.com i'd ever heard of. i joined because adult. had exclusive digital downloads. ironically i listen to those tracks the least of anything i've bought from there. i'm hungry for more good techno (a la ellen allien, joey beltram, metope, basteroid, audion, michael mayer, thomas brinkmann) and dubstep (starkey, vex'd, and burial are amazing). but searching through the site is labyrinthine and tedious. i understand how the little arrows work but feel annoyed at having to make certain moves to get back and check out the next thing. i think the new player will take care of this though. i'm glad they sell .WAVs (as does junodownload), but the "wave handling charge" is kind of nuts. an extra dollar per track??? just for getting proper quality? needless to say i've been reluctantly making do with 320kbps mp3's but i'm not happy. FLAC or WAV with no or minimal additional charge should become the norm. On Jan 7, 2009, at 12:03 AM, Andrew Duke wrote:

oh yeah, and the sound of the previews sucks so much it's sometimes hard to tell if i even like something or not. with techno, it's not like there's a great "song" in the traditional sense that can weather any interpretation...the sound of things is as important as the rhythm and melody. maybe a good thing or i might buy more just because shit sounds cool. Fairly sure an extra dollar for wave files is pretty standard. At least I think that's what addictech.com charge too. Kinda makes sense when you consider the difference in file size... -----Original Message----- From: chthonic streams [mailto:chthonic@chthonicstreams.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2009 11:26 PM To: idm Subject: Re: [idm] for those who use Beatport totally agreed on your additional points. i'm excited about the new changes, but feel they could go further. renaming files is annoying. beatport is my first DL site i joined, probably the first outside of bleep.com i'd ever heard of. i joined because adult. had exclusive digital downloads. ironically i listen to those tracks the least of anything i've bought from there. i'm hungry for more good techno (a la ellen allien, joey beltram, metope, basteroid, audion, michael mayer, thomas brinkmann) and dubstep (starkey, vex'd, and burial are amazing). but searching through the site is labyrinthine and tedious. i understand how the little arrows work but feel annoyed at having to make certain moves to get back and check out the next thing. i think the new player will take care of this though. i'm glad they sell .WAVs (as does junodownload), but the "wave handling charge" is kind of nuts. an extra dollar per track??? just for getting proper quality? needless to say i've been reluctantly making do with 320kbps mp3's but i'm not happy. FLAC or WAV with no or minimal additional charge should become the norm. On Jan 7, 2009, at 12:03 AM, Andrew Duke wrote:
