With the incessant journalistic nods to its birthplace-of-techno
roots, it would be easy to assume Detroit is a city stuck in its
own musical past. But its thriving and continually evolving scene,
represented this month by four of the D's finest "new school"
talents, has proven that nothing could be further from the truth.
Repping the Spectral, Paxahau, and Beretta camps and beyond,

RYAN ELLIOTT
Detroit DJ Ryan Elliott has gained notoriety over the past few years by
programming sets that are as well crafted and sophisticated as they are
danceable. From ice cold minimal techno to summery house beats, Elliott has
played both big rooms and martini bars with equal success. As a DJ, Ryan is
adept in the late night hours, finding the balance between heavy floor
tracks and elegant crowdpleasers. Utilizing three decks, multiple audio
sources, and outboard effects are par for the course, and Elliott employs
them with the utmost skill to keep crowds engaged.
With a fervent interest in the emerging international techno scene, he is a
walking dictionary of artists, labels, and releases. Elliott held his
Tuesday night events at Ann Arbor's Goodnight Gracie with Matthew Dear from
2002 to 2004, bringing back energy to the city's nightlife. Ryan Elliott was
also asked to be a resident at Detroit's weekly Untitled alongside Dear,
Tadd Mullinix, Mike Servito, and Derek Plaslaiko. In 2005 he began a new
residency at Detroit's Oslo, and created a stellar 33-track mix for the 2xCD
edition of the Spectral Sound Vol. 1 compilation. This year he delivered
one of the most talked about sets at the DEMF, tag-teaming with good friend
Matthew Dear on the Detroit Stage.

KEITH KEMP
A Detroit native, Keith's exposure to electronic music via Industrial
pioneers Skinny Puppy and Brian Eno sparked an early infatuation with
synthesizers and audio software. Club life after high school inspired
Keith's interest in spinning records, connecting the dots to Detroit artists
such as Plastikman, Underground Resistance and Carl Craig. He has since
focused on various creative areas of electronic music: DJ, producer,
operating his label Gravid Digital, and performing his own music live.
DJ: Keith's gigs have seen him headline alongside almost every prolific
producer to have graced the electronic music stage in the past decade. A
highly regarded technical performer, Keith's sets combine his love of house,
Industrial and German minimalism with Detroit techno. Sharing his taste in
quality music with people as a DJ, he has traveled across the United States
and performed at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2002 and 2005.
After strictly DJing for a few years, he took the next logical step by
cutting down his schedule and returned to his machines, working hard on his
own unique take on electronic dance music.
LIVE: Blending the ethics of minimal techno with the moods and feel of house
music has helped Keith in the creation of a live p.a. His passion for music
technology, whether hardware or software, has allowed Keith to continually
develop his live performances in a modern micro-house sensibility. His live
performances are best described as a deft fusion of percussion programming,
sub-atomic bass lines, and melodic flourishes. Keith regularly performs
live for revered Detroit promoters Paxahau and Freshcorp.

RICH KORACH
Rich Korach discovered underground electronic music in 1994, finally
encountering the sound for which he had been searching. A native to the
Detroit area, Rich witnessed sets from the early pioneers of techno: Derrick
May, Kevin Saunderson, John Acquaviva and Stacey Pullen. Drawing influence
from Detroit's elite, Rich became an active DJ in 1997. His sets are
characterized by seamless transitions between elements of House and Techno,
creating new subgenres with every mix.
In 2004 Rich became one of a few select Paxahau resident DJs while
conjointly leading the merchandise divisions for Paxahau, DEMF and D
Records. Being a resident Paxahau DJ gave Rich greater opportunity to
display his unique capacity for DJ'ing, earning opening sets for such
luminaries as: Josh Wink, Michael Mayer, Mathew Jonson and Richie Hawtin.
Rich consistently evolves his sets, incorporating the latest effects
components to create buildups, rearrange sounds, and make his performances
that much more unique. His precision, timing, and technical aptitude have
acquired both national and international attention resulting in spots at:
the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Ibiza, Berlin, and all across the U.S.

ERIC CLOUTIER
In a genre and movement all too predictable with the same fifty records
playing forever on a continuous loop, Eric Cloutier is quietly making
himself stand out amongst Detroit's next generation of producers and DJ's.
He began on the same circuit of Detroit parties and clubs most have
traveled, eventually establishing residencies at Ann Arbor's Necto and
Detroit's prominent after hours party spot, The Works. He also performed at
both 2004's Movement festival as well as 2006's Detroit Electronic Music
Festival, and has shared the decks with fellow Detroit DJ's Matthew Dear,
Derek Plaslaiko and Ryan Elliott. In 2005, he was handpicked as a chosen
replacement for the next batch of DJ's at Detroit's monthly "Untitled"
parties. He has since gone on to be label manager for the label Subtrak,
which is slowly making waves amongst deeper minimal fans. Tasteful yet
mildly abrasive, his blend of minimal techno infused with dub sensibilities
firmly entrenches his sound in Detroit's rich past while looking towards the
future.
