With dozens of singles, remixes, some film and TV work and contributions to sample CDs to his credit, this recent expansion has born a slew of tracks deeply informed by his uncompromising aesthetic honed over years of diligent production which finds its roots in Detroit Techno but references a far broader range of music, both in and outside of electronic music. Growing up in a family of performing artists--his mother a soprano singer and his father a conductor--his musically formative years were steeped in Classical music, but eventually his horizons and tastes widened to include hip hop, DJing and finally, electronic music. Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, his recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo. Earlier on, his music found release on labels such as A13, Multiplex and Generation R&S. Following those successes, in 1996 he established his own imprint, Palette Recordings, in Los Angeles and has enjoyed seven years of steady growth and recognition. The label has served as an exclusive outlet for his own prodigious output but has recently begun to expand its roster. He has also continued to record for other labels such as Plug Research, Seventh City, Moods and Grooves, deFocus, Sino and others, often in collaboration with 12 year long collaborator Arian Leviste, and alongside these numerous singles, has also produced eight albums; two each for A13 and Palette, and one each for deFocus, Plug Research, Moods and Grooves and Playhouse. A frequent collaborator with Miss Teen USA (1996, 1998,) John Tejada and 1/2 of the electro (not that shitty kind with ironic vocals and 80's haircuts) duo Volsoc, he's released a pantload of great music over the past few years and gained about 10 pounds since moving to San Francisco. Dominik Eulberg. Mossa. Put it On (Dave Taylor/Jesse Rose). Transparent Sound. Snog. Bass Kittens. Kraddy. What do these names have in common? Vowels, consonants, and the "Justin Maxwell Has Remixed Us" Badge. But he's not stopping there, no way. The world is bracing itself for four more releases from his projects with DSP Speedwagon, The Diskchordians, The John Tejada and Justin Maxwell Experience, and of course, some slammin' solo stuff with gritty bass, chunky beats and some dumb DSP tricks that cause losers to hang out at the back of the room professing their knowledge of MAX/MSP and SuperCollider.
