More of a specialty shop than a full-on distributor, the Neferiu shop (www.neferiu.com) carries quality local calgary hiphop and experimentaly minded electronic music projects not directly related to the Neferiu label, but still worth noting. I highly recommend the Tetrix 5 album for weirdness - or Planit "Onword" for avant garde hiphop electronix. Cheers, Mantrakid www.neferiu.com wells oliver wrote:

Forced Exposure Mimaroglu Amazon plus various mp3 dowload sites (emusic, bleep, finetunes, beatport, audiolunchbox, playlouder.com) Just this week I purchased 4 Planet Mu releases on the web from a US based retailler. The price per CD worked out at approx. €14. HMV here in Cork is selling Mu Ziq's Bilous Paths for €27 ! No, that isn't a typo... The local indie shop could hardly do better than €18 or €19 for a planet Mu release, given that they have what you want in stock... On 9/30/05, wells oliver <wells@submute.net> wrote:

Depends where you're located. UK-peeps like myself had it large for most of this year with the pound vacating its bladder waterfall-stylee all over the dollar. Arf arf! Buying from the US was a gleeful virtually BOGOF (Buy One Get One Free) scenario a couple of months back at $1.90 to the GBP, but now it seems the $ is wiping itself down and drying itself off a bit. So, in sum, all in all, not *Killer*, but still fairly Essential. Which leads me on to... Boomkat: a good resource, but if this were a friend dropping in he'd be one who took his shoes off and put your telly on full volume and banged on too much till you needed to throw him out. But anyway at around 12 quid a throw for a disc on average that's still No Snip even for the pocket of a British trouserwearer. I prefer to exploit that Special Relationship. So, yeah... I will say that I've always been happy with Playing By Ear (but don't go looking for a website); PBE has a good combo of prompt service and, if you want it, individualised recs and sharp informed responses to requests for appraisal. Good prices too, but cheapness isn't the only criterion, otherwise we'd all be trudging round Wallmart/Woolworths/Kwik Save (insert lo-grade cheapskate de-personalised monolithic institution of choice), and I prefer to support cottage/bungalow/mudhut/garden shed industries. alan --On 30 September 2005 09:59 +0100 Brian.Power@cso.ie wrote:

Alan, here's a good tip ;) i order most of my electronic CD's from the cheap UK online shops, such as Play.com or Powerplaydirect.com . not many people know that you can actually buy electronic stuff from these very commercial sites! of course you can't find every electronic album there, but labels like Toytronic, Merck, Lo, Warp, Rephlex are usually available. and not for £12.99, but for a cool £7.99-9.99 :)) great deal, no ? ;) not sure how this is useful for american users, but i think Play.com ship worldwide (for free?), so worth checking out. --- Alan Lockett <Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk> wrote:

Thanks for the tip. I think I already got there (or to a similar destination), though. I have done some ordering through blahdvd.com, which I think is pretty much the same kind of entity as Play.com. I managed to order *and receive* a copy of Octex 'Idei Lahesna' - a pretty esoteric item of Slovenian post-techno electronica - for £8.99 P+P free. I think Blah is based in the Channel Islands so there's probably some kind of tax-free thing going on there. Dunno if it pays for US buyers to shop there. I still like the 'personal service' element of the likes of Playing By Ear. Eventually, I found that Blah started to get back to me and say they couldn't source the disc they'd already taken my order for. Blah indeed... alan --On 30 September 2005 13:24 +0100 "R.P." <rockin_pony@yahoo.com> wrote:

yes, i remember Blahdvd, and similar thing happened to me once/twice with Powerplaydirect. i think it was the Harmonic33 album on WARP, which they couldnt get from the distributor and re-ordered 14 (!!!) times. i just kept waiting, cuz i wanted to see what's gonna happen :) but yeah it was worth the wait (7.99!) Idei Lahesna is rather rare indeed! i'm surprised Blahdvd were selling it! and just checked - they still do , so i'll get me a copy as well :) thanks for the tip!! speaking of Octex , his 2nd album just came out: http://www.electrosputnik.com/cd_RXTXCD008.php never tried PBE, but i've heard a lot obviously on the list. --- Alan Lockett <Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk> wrote:

Which.....uh, planet Mu releases is it ? Exile, Vibert, edIT and Vex'd albums. Was thinking of picking up the Frog Pocket disc aswell in time. np : smash - jackson and his computer band (found it a bit gaudy on first listen, but loving it more 'n more 'n more 'n more on repeated listenings). Amazon.com (gasp) seller 'keifer' (or kiefer) records I think they're called. I don't recall that the Frog Pocket was currently stocked... Jackson and his computer came down the pipe from bleep for 999 EU cents, which is, admittedly, a bit steep for a few mp3's. eMusic IMO is great value for money for mp3's of a more alternative/indie cast - 20 bucks a month for 90 d/l's - hmmm, that's tastey. Even moreso when ye consider that you'll get a lot of the merck and schematic back catalogue there. It beats paying €10 for 10 or 15 track d/l's on bleep... hime@charter.net To: idm@hyperreal.org 30/09/05 15:33 cc: Subject: [Possible Spam] Re: Re: [idm] Ordering stuff online?

Yeah, the new Kallikak Family album is really nice. Don't be scared away by the word "family" in the name, as it's definitely not folk music! And I think it's mostly made by just one guy. I can see how some people might say it's similar to The Books, since it has a couple of tracks with acoustic guitar. But the majority of the album is ambient drones, field recording, and strange noises. And despite the overall experimental vibe, it also manages to be catchy and emotionally moving. Overall, this is a pretty unique release... Perhaps similar in spirit to the lo-fi, non-pretentious experimental music on Lucky Kitchen. Todd

i was in a similar boat. i've gotten some items from http://www.midheaven.com/ i was looking for the self released 'ha' album by dose one which doesn't even have a barcode and they carried it. they also have shipping rates which are very good ( shipping is always a pain ). kd laphop.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'll second that! Norman are utterly lovely people, always helpful, and their reviews are great. Plus their prices are always extremely reasonable. Boomkat's prices are pretty good too and I do order from them when necessary. I live in Australia and find the prices with postage are generally no more than getting from the shops here (and much of what I get isn't available here at all). If I need to order from the US, I'd often go for Forced Exposure, or the other suggestions made here.
