I set myself up by saying "it had never been done before," but to clarify: I was referring to the use of a "spaghetti western" motif ('sounds') rather than samples by Morricone. If you have heard the Todd Terry "Dreams..." track (which is pretty awful, btw) then you'll know it's not a spaghetti-western dance track. Obviously, the same goes for Little Fluffy Clouds. While we're on the topic, KLF's "chillout" album has several tracks primarily composed of noodly spaghetti-western type guitar samples (again, not to suggest it's a dance album). <*yawn*> I would be curious if someone can point to a track prior to Pistolero with the same "would be good for a chase scene in 'the Good, Bad and the Ugly' had it been filmed in 2000'" feeling. Erasure covered The Good, The Bad And The Ugly as a b-side to one of the singles from The Innocents... I can't say it was good - but it was dance... several steps better is the Acid Horse record on WaxTrax - which was a collaboration between members of Ministry and Richard H. 'Dreams' is less of a "spaghetti-western dance track" than is 'The Texican', however either could be termed a "spaghetti-western dance track", *imo*.
