I wanted to buy the Sony Hi-MD MZ-RH10 but eventually bought a iRiver mp3 player/recorder instead (the HP140 records in uncompressed wav, using one of internal mic, external mic, line input, optical input). Here is a link to the RH10: http://www.minidisco.com/mz-rh10.html Hope it helps, Sebastien

I have one of these. The recording on it sucks ass. No matter how great a mic you plug into it, it records the sound of the drive spinning up and down in with what you're trying to records. bah.

why would anyone even consider buying minidisks these days? Edirol and Tascam have portable flash recorders equipped with high-end connections and 192khz recording capabilities using + gig storage? I personally would save a bit and get one of those. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The Edirol R-4 is $1595 USD and is large and clunky. Compare that to the size and price of many portable minidisc machines in the market and I can see why someone might choose minidisc. For $1600 I'd just buy a laptop.

sorry my fault i was told it was around $600...certainly at 1600 a laptop would be a better choice. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

that's on my wish list ... i think M-audio also has a 2track flash recorder coming out soon too. i have a sony minidisc and i use it for some recording ... it's not awful but the biggest problem is sony's asshatted concept of copy-protection, which means there is no digital output on their consumer minidisc recorders, so you are forced to output an analog signal to transfer material off the discs. the edirol flash recorder will allow you to just drag-n-drop via the flash card. if they're smart they'd have a USB port on it too so you can use the recorder as a mountable filesystem. i don't have the specs handy so i dunno if they've done this or not. anyways, no moving parts == much better recording quality. -josh --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
