if you get a chance to see this show, just go. you won't be dissapointed. as
many have stated, rob hall is an amazing dj and is worth the price of
admission on it's own. SND played a drippy, clicky 4/4 set of abelton style
loops and massive tweakery. and autechre was just amazing. their
production/recording techniques are top notch, and their set was more
danceable than the last three albums. the music they play will never be
released, so you might as well go for that alone. obviously being a fan of
the 'new' autechre helps, but the feeling one is left with after their
performance is simply breath taking. it was like being inside of the gantz
graf video... where they suck you in with huge enveloping textures, slow it
down to talk to you in that little micro glitch voice, then turn up the
terror and completly destroy you and any notion you may have about what AE
is.
plus the venue in atlanta was very cool, with theather style seating in the
back and a general pit area in front of the stage for dancing. this was nice
as you could sit or stand for the entire show, or bounce between the two.
the auditorium was non-smoking, so it was nice and easy to breath inside.
the total darkness was expected, and while it didn't make for great photos (
http://www.flickr.com/photos/xenlab/sets/396875/) I was able to capture the
mood of the event with my digital elph's video feature. Once I compress the
clips I caught (I didn't record the whole thing) into a decent enough
quicktime movie I will post it to the list. The clips, once strung together,
do give an approximate feel for the overall experience and soundscapes.
i hear ae,
