hi all, just wondering what the standard etiquette is on this list regarding event promotions. do you use the [BSP] (blatant self promotion) tag as well as the city the event is happening in? I may soon be posting an ad for an upcoming SF show (hint: it's going to be LIVE and wicked) and don't want to piss off any of my new friends in the process. thanks in advance. -----> greg bird --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

definitely make the city (and country if city doesn't make it obvious) clear to someone skimming the subject line. there is nothing more annoying that having to dig to somewhere in the middle near the bottom of some wack-formatted announcement to find out where the hell its located. wait, yes there is: having to do it 10 times a day. you might also want to include some salacious charge somewhere near the top of the email like "BoC are gay" or "I met Sean and Rob and its pronounced 'Oh-tach-erey'" to get some attention. -josh Greg Bird wrote:

hi folks, my name is greg bird and as most of you likely know by now i organize the [KONTROL] parties out of SF. once a month i also post our events to the IDM list, assuming there's at least a bit of "I" in the "DM" (i.e. Sutekh, Isolee, Donnacha Costello). my question is, if a party or the acts do not fall within the traditional scope of IDM, is posting here out of place? i don't want to be annoying or spamming people, and yet i HAVE heard from some folks that they discovered our events thru this list. this month we're featuring Mike Shannon and Dustin Zahn live. Mike plays minimal techno and house, and Dustin plays pretty much straight up techno. is this "IDM" enough to warrant posting to this list? just don't want to be interjecting crap that's unwelcome or unwanted. also, what is the standard protocol for posting events? start with "BSP", city, etc.? is there an established standard for this on this board? please advise. on another note, a couple friends and i have recently started an ambient/electronica/IDM monthly here in SF called Afterglow. since that is TOTALLY in line with the focus of this board, expect to see a monthly post from me keeping you up to date on our dates, special guests, etc. thanks, ----> greg bird www.kontrolsf.com www.afterglow.com

Hey Greg, I love the kontrol events. You guys do a great job. Personally I'm happy to hear about what's going on even if its outside the classic definition of IDM (which is what? who cares). I haven't seen a standard for tagging event posts except that maybe 8 or 10 years ago there was this big flamefest when people would post their blurbs w/ the club name and date without any mention whatsoever of what god-damn city or country they were in. So mentioning SF somewhere would probably be advisable. And, well, it's right there in your URL so you're pretty well covered. keep it steady. -=Eric On Jan 29, 2009, at 4:45 PM, Greg Bird wrote:
