Hello all, Anyone able to clue me in on a place that would take my money for Thomas Brinkmann's Studio 1 - Variationen in some form of audio files? I'm not seeing it on Bandcamp or other places. I'd like to pretend I'm one of those guys with a beret and a high end turntable listening in a penthouse suite but it's usually my phone and earbuds. https://www.discogs.com/release/18130-Thomas-Brinkmann-Studio-1-Variationen Thanks - David

He initially gained notoriety in the experimental electronic music and Techno community for his full-length ‘variations’ (his description) of material by Mike Ink and Richie Hawtin. The variations were made by playback of the original artist records on a turntable of Brinkmann's design, which has two tone arms with separate outputs for left and right channels. The turntables were then pitched down from 33rpm to 27rpm and the results recorded and mixed. Both Ink and Hawtin were sufficiently impressed they released the results on their own labels in 1997 and 1998, respectively. I remember attending an event in Berlin in the late 90s where Brinkmann played the variations live with his two arm turntable design. In my record shelf is the whole studio one series as well as most of Profan (except the latest releases) There is also this concept 1 remix by Brinkmann which is the variations of Hawtin’s concept 1 series using his dual-tone arm turntable https://www.discogs.com/release/15382-Concept-1-Concept-1-96VR <https://www.discogs.com/release/15382-Concept-1-Concept-1-96VR> Notable in that context also Akufen’s re-interpretation https://www.discogs.com/master/860269-Forcept-1-FR01-Akufens-Concept-1-Reinterpretations-Volume-1 <https://www.discogs.com/master/860269-Forcept-1-FR01-Akufens-Concept-1-Reinterpretations-Volume-1> I know of a digital file of Forcept 2 which I can not find unfortunately. Must be in the depth of my drives if I have not lost it meanwhile due to hard drive losses. Does anyone know about it and why it was never released? Seems to be an unofficial release I guess? Best, si_o

I was thinking the Kompakt site would have it but no luck. https://kompakt.fm/releases/studio_1_variationen It looks like not only are the CDs and 12"s sold out but all those digital bits are too. The CD page says "Back In Stock" which I'm sure it was at one point. Maybe they'll repress another batch. In the meantime you'll just have to stream it OR find someone with a copy that would be kind enough to send you the files ;-). - Chris On Fri, Oct 27, 2023 at 9:12 AM David Seruyange <g3scom@gmail.com> wrote:
