So, tell me, is the IDM mailing list archived somewhere in a searchable
web format? Tell me how easy it is to search all the e-mails without a
searchable web format while you're at it. It appears (amazingly) the
admin/Hyperreal do not have a searchable archive... pity. It makes it
infinitely easier to use that way. They should switch to Mailman if
they're not using it already.
Personally I still enjoy mailing lists (we're a dying breed, I'm
afraid) but I think PHP (or whatever floats your boat, Python, etc.)
based web forums are a lot easier to manage, search and organize (and
moderate). Mailing lists still hold a special place in my heart... but
we're comparing apples to oranges here.
A mailing list != online store.
You might disagree, but most people would rather use a searchable web
store than have to banter back and forth via e-mail to order. If
e-mail stores were a popular format why then is NO ONE else using them?
You don't see Amazon (etc.) using that format...
