What I like about CDs: The sound quality (sometimes!) The durability (sometimes!) The fact that I can wrap them up in a plasic bag (or two!), pop them in my coat pocket and take them down the pub, for a friend to borrow - something I would *never* countenance with vinyl!!! Errr... that's it, I think! As for the "hidden tracks" stuff, I think that's pretentious bollocks! The only time I've found that fun was with (...Father, forgive me!) Nine Inch Nails'* "Broken", which had a track listing that went something like: 7 tracks of music, 91 small tracks of silence, then one very noisy hidden track. I used to like scaring myself by turning the volume up, putting my CD player on "random" and seeing what would happen! :-) Clive * - Hey, I was young and impressionable! We all mistakes! I just want to try to put it all behind me and get on with the rest of my life! ----- Original Message ----- From: "John/Slackonomics" <slack@slackonomics.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2005 2:13 PM Subject: [idm] Why CD is better.

Oh yeah. Hidden tracks are about the worst thing that ever came out of CDs. I do not want to a) sit there and wait for twenty minutes to hear thirty seconds of digital garbage ala LP5 or b) hold the scan button down and hope that I don't hit the end of the track, thereby making me start all over again. Seriously. Hidden tracks are so annoying, that in some cases, I'll rip it all down, cut out the empty space, and reburn the CD. Geez. How annoying. np:Vsnares:Giant Alien Force etc... (hooray for having 12,000 tracks on shuffle) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Everyone trashing the "secret track" phenomenon has obviously not had the single experience that makes it so cool. Put on a beautiful album, have wonderful sex, start to fall asleep, and be very close when the music starts coming back again. Wake up again and repeat :) Then there's the whole issue of hidden artwork on a cd - like Violet Arcana's first disc, where the black cd-holder concealed a nice image and poem, with just an eye peeking out through the hole in the middle. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
