so! its finally happening.
this weekend. no more "do it later" action.
so here it is.
I'm [pandatone] playing live this sunday, the 28th at tonic [lower east
side]
tonicnyc.com [for directions].
it starts a 8pm.. upstairs.
and its 8$ at the door. [drinks are resonable to cheap at tonic imo]
I'm joining up with 2 nice groups.. "stars like fleas" and "akron/family"
also, mumbleboy will be doing some live video madness during my [pandatone]
show.. it will be fun, cause it will be mad lights flashing. robots eating
doughnuts and people eating robots. or maybe the robots.. are people?
and I'm mostly playing stuff that is NOT on "lemons & limes"..
I know next to nothing about akron/family.. I think they tour with like
DEVENDRA BANHART, or something.. ??
mysterious..
and stars like fleas is a whole bunch of crazyness.. here are some press
clippings for them, and their last album.. and just for giggles.. I'll put
some neat press clipping for me [pandatone] below SLF's clippings.
please come and enjoy it! it should be really cool, and fun! yep, fun. you
heard me.
Recent Press for Stars Like Fleas
"Of the many bands trying to combine song craft with true, flexible,
reactive group improvisation, none I've heard is quite so successful
as Stars Like Fleas...few bands have the resolve to push their music
as far toward formlessness, as well as the skill and concentration
to coax that formlessness into something listenable, coherent and
beautiful
.brilliant"

" will surely appeal to fans of [Robert] Wyatt's later material the
album floats in a dreamy state of consciousness.
Each song is a
dense amalgam of acoustic, electronic, abstract and pop elements.
The balance is at times fragile, but Fields turns this fragility
into an uncanny form of charm
requires many listens [and] grows on
you in unexpected ways. Highly recommended."

[8.2 out of 10] "engaging and relentlessly subtle there are two
types of virtuosity present: sonic manipulation and instrumental
prowess. Fields and Knott take the immensity of musicians and
concentrate their disparate ideas into one intimate and wonderfully
realized statement. It's hard to tell whether this record is the
cerebral read-out of its entire populous lineup, or of two very
complex minds, but the finished result is intimate and utterly
beautiful."

Pandatone "Lemons & Limes" on Neo Ouija records, 2004
-the wire uk
New York's Trevor Sias goes all pastoral, the way only a city dweller can,
composing a series of wordless songs for his acoustic guitar and then
fragmenting them across the board into a collection of tiny scintillations.
Expressing a joy that can only be found in the kind of artificially
controlled enviroments where nature is a vile outcast and ants are busy
chewing through the wiring, Lemons and Limes has it's moments of weightless
gravity. Cellophone and Go f7 chime and reverbarate in a neat sequence with
each other. Toshiba Sounds and Stat make play of shuttling tempi, while
Bureen broods and recedes and Broadwalk settles into a melancholy pop
groove. Welcome to the great indoors.

A delectable album release from the reliable Neo Ouija imprint witch sheds
the predominantly electronic skin that most of the back catalogue seems to
favour. Mostly made up of processed guitars and gently melodic, subtly put
togeather electronic elements, it has a lovely tuneful feel but an oddly
pleasing abstract edge. Whether it's a bluesy lick or a country lick or
something altogether more contemporary, each cut has an engaging and
enjoyable feel. Light, airy... splendid stuff.

The guy who runs the small label Music Related is Trevor Sias who makes
music as Pandatone and has just released his (I think) first full-length
album on one of my most favourite melodic labels, Neo Ouija. Cool that Lee
Metamatics, who runs Neo Ouija, releases music from lots of unknown artists
if they're good enough of course, many new names are featured on the
forthcoming 4th volume of the classy Cottage Industries compilations.
Neo Ouija's releases are one of the finest and most fascinating of that
kind. Pandatone mixes electronics and acoustics (acoustic guitar) too, as
Shugo Tokumaru, but there's no singing here, only pa-pa-ra-pa once.
Pandatone is more electronic and more experimental. There's a sketch-like
aspect in his pieces too, it takes time for the melodies to develop through
a bit confusing glitches sometimes, but never too harsh. It's a programming
meets songwriting thing going on here, without the singing typical for this
context. But maybe Trevor will start to sing along with the intimate music
he produces one day, just like Dave Pajo did. But even if not, it's alright
as it is now. Very nice album. (BR)

Almost like the freshness of citrus fruits, the album is full of the
youthful reverberations of synths, guitars, and even vocals.
