Driven from the forest by unseen forces, The reindeer herd struggled
through the rain-soaked terrain, unaware of the Xume-Ha harvester that was
stationed just beyond the cordillera; its huge reso-ceramic jaws buried
deep in the thick grass. The animals had reached their destination, and
stopped to graze. The trap had been successful. Several hours would pass
before their instincts would make them aware that they were no longer on
terra firma, but it would take more than just instinct to save them of the
forced evolution they were about to undergo.
The Xume-Ha had laced the grass with a powerful anesthetic that was
designed to render the animals unconscious for 2 complete cycles; long
enough for the mutation to take place.
The first to wake up from the imposed rest period was a 3 year old buck
deer. He woke up with a terrible headache, aware that he had been sleeping
far too long. He already knew where he was, and who he was, and as he
shook himself out of the small sleeping chamber, he caught his own
reflection on one of the ship's silver walls. He paused to study the
ornate designs that were
now inlaid into his antlers, smiled, and then continued on about his
morning ritual.
