<<FORWARDED MESSAGE BELOW>> If you're like me, the question that's been on your mind lately (besides the one about how many girls you can fit into a phone booth) has been "Where am I going to get my fix of interesting music in this one-horse town, especially since PUSH nights at AKA Lounge are no longer happening?" We all know the stories and the rumors. Suffice it to say that while PUSH was an interesting experiment, and many good things came out of it, sometimes things just have to change. Sometimes, you have to upgrade the metaphorical software to the latest version. Sometimes, you have to lose something good so that you're inspired to make something even better. And this is the position that we find ourselves in now, my friends. PUSH is no more, and thus a vacuum has been created. And I don't have to tell you how nature feels about a vacuum. So out of this void, something new has arisen: ezRPM. ezRPM is the new, weekly, experimental music night here in Orlando. ezRPM builds on the good work started with PUSH; but many changes are in store as well. What does ezRPM stand for? Egyptian Zombie Robot Party Machine. But it stands for something more, something a little deeper than that. It stands for musical novelty in the face of soul-crushing Clearchannel/MTV hegemony. It stands for the maverick artists still willing to take real risks. It stands for intelligent listeners who despise being spoon-fed the boyband of the day. It stands for participatory culture in the world capital of theme parks. Now, don't think that by "experimental" we mean nothing but dudes with laptops. We're going to be showcasing music that crosses genres, and defies boundaries. You'll hear all kinds of stuff, stuff that you may never otherwise encounter. You'll hear outsider works from across the musical cosmos. You may even hear your new favorite band. So, in that spirit, here are the details: ezRPM is going to be going on each Monday night, starting Dec. 29th, at the Back Booth downtown, a venue well known for the consistent quality and remarkable diversity of both the entertainment, and the selection of beers on tap. The first show, on the 29th, will be a benefit for the night - all performers are waiving payment to help build the promotions/bookings bankroll. The performers on the 29th will include: R_garcia (nophi/kikapu/ocp) Mic Mell (nophi) Ian Monroe Xenlab All for a mere $5. In the works, the Back Booth and ezRPM will be brining the Sam Rivers Trio in January, and many others in forthcoming months, including Sage Francis, Otto Von Shirach, and other super-exciting stuff that I can't even mention for fear of jinxing it. So come out and join us, won't you? I assure you, it'll be worth your time. To sum up, ezRPM presents: R_garcia (nophi/kikapu/ocp) Mic Mell (nophi) Ian Monroe Xenlab Monday, Dec. 29th At the Back Booth 37 W.
