ACUTE NEWS
The long-awaited Metal Urbain reissue is finally coming out on Acute next
month (North America only). We're sorry to keep you waiting so long. For
those who don't know, Paris' Metal Urbain were the definitive synth-punk
band of the late '70s. They even had the first single on Rough
Trade. Copies of "Anarchy in Paris!" should be available on our website
sometime early next month so please give us a visit at
<
http://www.acuterecords.com/>www.acuterecords.com.
Another reason to visit the Acute online shop is that we have a small
supply of original Theoretical Girls 7"'s for sale for $15. Why wait for
it to come on ebay when you can have it now for a better price? This is
the original and only Theoretical Girls single featuring "US Mille" and
"You Got Me". They won't be around for long!
In Post-Metal Urbain news, Acute will reissue the Metal Boys "Tokio
Airport" record (originally on Celluloid) plus nine unreleased tracks in
March. Also, post-Metal Urbain project Dr. Mix and the Remix will get the
Acute treatment this May.
Metal Urbain are playing in England this week with New Model Army:
December 16th - London Astoria
December 17th - Nottingham Rock City
December 18th - Leeds Metropolitan University
Glenn Branca's first record "Lesson #1" (originally on 99 records) will be
reissued by us in April. Added bonuses will include "Bad Smells", a
composition featuring Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo created for the Twyla
Tharp Dance Company, plus a live video from 1984 of "Symphony #5". And
there are more reissues to come!
CARPARK NEWS
Greg Davis' "Curling Pond Woods" will be officially released on Carpark
February 10th. If you like The Books or the Incredible String Band, we
think you'll be quite happy with this one. Greg has formed a touring band
which just played its first show last night at 3030 in Chicago. The band
will be touring North America and Europe this Spring.
We're excited as heck to announce the first Carpark Family Japan Tour. The
Animal Collective (Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Deacon), Greg Davis, Ogurusu
Norihide, and DJ Carpark (i.e. me) will have three shows in Japan this
February. Here are the dates:
February 26th - Kyoto - Metro
February 27th - Nagoya - Tightrope with Lullatone
February 29th - Tokyo - Shibuya Nest
Early word on the street is that the Carpark North American Spring Tour
will feature the Greg Davis group and Marumari. More details soon!
Be sure to check out the new book "CD-ART Innovation in CD Packaging
Design" by Charlotte Rivers (Rotovision - UK) as they feature "The
Placekick EP" by Jake Mandell (Carpark #1) designed by yours
truly. Carpark's official design team Heads Inc. is featured as well.
Also Carpark is listed as one of five innovative new indie labels in the
year-end issue of Res Magazine (www.res.com).
PAW TRACKS NEWS
The Animal Boys are keeping active this holiday season. They've been busy
as beavers working on the new paw-tracks.com website. We hope it'll be
open to the public next month.
As well as preparing for the Japanese tour (see dates above), The Animal
Collective are also planning on another jaunt to Europe this spring. We'll
have dates and details when they're confirmed. The AC are also looking to
play shows at clubs and colleges along the east coast this spring so if you
are interested please get in touch!
Next Paw-Tracks release is Panda Bear "Young Prayer" slated for June
release. A Paw-Tracks compilation is tentatively scheduled for August.
The Animal Collective also just gave us about 10 "Here Comes the Indian"
LPs leftover from their various tours. The LP is out of print except for
these 10 copies which we are selling on the Paw-Tracks online shop
(<
http://www.paw-tracks.com/>www.paw-tracks.com). This is definitely your
last chance to get a sealed copy.
That's it for now. Let us know if you don't want to receive these by
emailing info@carparkrecords.com. See you next year.
Best,
Todd
