Usually plugging into a different plug or power strip works. Sometimes you'll even need to find out how the circuits run in your place and plug into a different circuit from the mixer. Also, you *should* technically have your music stuff plugged into power regulators/conditioners anyway -- they're usually rackmount and have 4-8 plugs in them. p.s. i have my laptop connected through the mixer on an amplifier... and there's the ground loop formed.. p.p.s. temporarily i just isolated the 'ground connection' on my laptop plug... but I've heard that's very dangerous.. is it? You could spend $100 on an Ebtech hum eliminator. Or, you could just use 3 prong to 2 prong adapters with the ground pin unattached. As long as you don't take a bath in a steel tub full of salt water while you're using your laptop you'll be just fine. I got mad a few weeks back when my laptop/Hammerfall DSP started making nasty noises because my wife swiped the 3 prong adapter, and I snapped the ground pin off the power supply cord. hmmmm... but evetywhere i read something about it they say it's the dangerous method... Here.. I found an article about it: "Logically you could think, you could eliminate ground loops by disconnecting the power-cord ground pins on all your gear. Some people might try to break the ground connection by cutting the grounding pin in the connector, using cheater plug, cutting the ground wire in equipment, taping over the grounding connector etc. DO NOT DO THIS! Removing the ground connection isn't right. It is against electrical safety regulations and potentially very dangerous. Removing ground connection can defeat the actions of your noise filter or spike protectors inside the equipments. If the ground connection is cut then a fault in the isulation inside equipment will cause dangerous voltages to the equipment case instead of burning a fuse. Removing the ground connection from the equipments which have it is dangerous, against electronic safety regulations and you risk damaging your equipment. Running without a power ground will not automatically electrocute you but will make this much more propable if something goes wrong in your system. NEVER use a three wire to two wire adapter on ANY piece of audio gear where a human can POSSIBLY come into contact with it. You're asking for a nice 120v "signal" thru someone's body. No that is NOT OK. If a piece of equipment is earthed, it is earthed for a reason. That being, it gives the current somewhere to go if the chassis should go live. If it has nowhere to go, it will take the first path that comes along. That first path is often a musician who thinks it's ok to disconnect his earth. Cheers Lee Stacey a.k.a.
