That's Ogg Vorbis, which WinAmp will handle on a PC; however, dunno about Macs. I * --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The .ogg (vorbis) solution is an interesting development/project... considering where mp3 decoding/liscencing is possibly headed. Is anyone on list actively using this file format or distributing it? -w.carrington ///////////// __snd_fnd_ON www.shft8pwr.net www.stardotpower.com/wcarrington www.a-very-sensitive-device.com __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? De-lurking here For the past year, I have ripped nothing but .oggs. Anything that I encode to send to friends, or for my own personal collection, is in ogg. The sound quality is great, but then so are a lot of MP3s. What I like the most is that the way the data is structured is mucu better. The tags (like ID3) are much more flexible, and there is nopost-frame gap like a lot of MP3s have. Winamp ships with an ogg plugin, and so do a lot of other popular audio players. There is even a Windows MEdia Player filter somewhere. Anus. --Jeff On Fri, 29 Nov 2002, w carrington wrote:

ogg is cool ... mpc (or mpeg+) is better... at least for quality... especially relevant for electronic based music which is prone to artefacts with mp3.... mpc is loosely based on mpeg2 or something like that.. don't know where the mp3 decoding/licensing is possibly heading?!? mp3 should die its old and crappy... ogg is great for open source.. mpc is the best at the moment (and for the last few years) for quality.. www.hydrogenaudio.org ^^ for all your music encoding queries, and knowledge Jim
